P.B. Burgoyne
Barossa Valley
Shiraz 2015

A fortunate purchase early last year has given us a Barossa Shiraz staple for over 12 months. There is a bit left though we are fretting about where the next will come from. Recall we did not make this wine but were lucky to be around when it came up for sale.

When a wine is of high quality and at a budget price you are set. That is what we do at Glug. Gain extra assurance with the judging points.

Buy great value wine when it is on special is my best advice. This only makes part sense of course as who is to say which of all the specials are great value.

I have had a very active time the last four months, visiting restaurants and wine bars in Sydney-twice, Melbourne, Adelaide and locally all over the Barossa. I also spent a wonderful Saturday at the Basket Range Festival of wine, in the Adelaide Hills to stay in touch with what is loosely called the natural or alternative movement.

I have concentrated on sampling wines I have never had before; meaning plenty of imports, new-at least to me-local makers and a good smattering of natural wines.

None of these of course were on special as they were sampled in restaurants and bars where you just pay the asking price. I never get bored by wine but the vast majority of the wines sat safely in the this camp; not so well made to well made, bit flat to fresh, and as hard as I might study them fell into the category of being honest varietals from makers which did the job but left few impressions.
Indeed they are like the wines most of us drink every day and are perfectly adequate and the only lasting impression would come from finding one or other cost $100 a bottle. You want a lot more when you pay the big bucks.

I offer today a Glug favourite which perfectly describes these restaurant wines and sells for $8.99, the Ariadne Sauvignon Blanc, which is about all you need and quality wise sits easily with them with a 91/100 score.

For a red nothing beats the P.B. Burgoyne Barossa Shiraz and $9.99 buys a wine I point at 91/100.

Value and quality guaranteed and this takes the risk out of buying.

30 Day Pricing Guarantee:
After buying wine it is most annoying to find it cheaper shortly afterwards. Currently Ben and I find selling on-line most turbulent. To hold our ground I confess to moving prices around far more than usual. Please notify Nicole or Claire of any upsetting price moves and they will then issue a credit.

Bagot Station
'Captain's Table'
Barossa Valley
Red Blend No 2 2012

Each year we buy many tiny volumes and can make a better wine by blending three or four of these into a commercial parcel which is about 30 cases. This preserves the regional characters and keeps the price modest.

Barbarossa
Valley Blend
Barossa Valley 2014 #3

The idea here is to make a field blend of premium varieties true to the Barossa but back where we were in 1880 when varieties were mixed. Clever wine and a delight plus delivers value.

Rose 2016

I have not been too impressed for many decades at what passes for Rose in Australia. It has always been an after thought, coloured white wine with lots of sugar, and a taste that tires after one sip. This is the real deal with grapes grown to make rose.
