Two Giant Soft Barossa Reds

Barbarossa 'Valley Blend' Barossa Valley 2014 #3
Glug 'Wayward Child' Barossa Valley Pinot Noir 2017

When I make suggestions I always spend your money wisely because I imagine it as mine. Both are rich Barossans but different. The Barbarossa is a field blend of several varieties and a triumph from winemaker Benjamin Parker while the Wayward Child while deep in colour is fleshy and soft. I rate it very highly.

A wonderful wine and exactly where customers should be. A massive field blend from the Barossa shows new directions.

Glug 'Wayward Child'
Barossa Valley
Pinot Noir 2017

Sensational wine with loads of softly textured golden ripe fruit.

Deep colour, lots of aroma, plump and fat. Drink what is in the glass has never been a truer thought.

To buy well or find ‘value for money’ you need to measure the quality of the wine, weigh up the savings, consider the variety and region and weight the quality of the retailer.

The main consideration of any consumer is to buy well*. To do this you need to recognise or quantify the quality offered, then in some way relate this to the price that is asked. When these equate it means you have found value for money and can proceed to buy.

Now Brother Richard has returned for a second visit this year so each evening we hit the Barossa wine bars and pubs and are steadily working out way through the many wines offered by the glass. Many are good but no sensational bargains discovered yet.

So, I am out and about drinking and tasting, studying what other wineries make, because at all times a wine merchant must maintain a well, tuned, palate.

When we started Glug I noted a WAS price on each wine to indicate what I saw as the saving a customer made. I failed to explain what I was getting at. Since no one else stocks our wines it was of little help for customers when working out value for money.

What I tried to indicate was the saving made when compared to the wines of other producers which my experience believed were of similar quality.
I have now changed WAS to the term REF, short for reference price, again this being my considered view of what other producers charge for a wine of similar quality.

My four decades of masked tastings may have transformed into drinking at the fashionable wine bars down to not so fashionable pubs of the Barossa Valley but I am in top judging condition. So while subjective I readily stand by the savings as indicated by REF and WAS when shopping at Glug.

Now I have got that off my chest I’ll see if Brother Richard wishes to expand into the Eden Valley and Adelaide Hills, purely for work not pleasure.

*This statement does not apply to high end items, rare objects, museum pieces, and all specialty bric-a-brac hunted by collectors and all manner of subjective experiences.

30 Day Pricing Guarantee:
After buying wine it is most annoying to find it cheaper shortly afterwards. Currently Ben and I find selling on-line most turbulent. To hold our ground I confess to moving prices around far more than usual. Please notify Nicole or Claire of any upsetting price moves and they will then issue a credit.

P.B. Burgoyne
Barossa Valley
Shiraz 2015

A fortunate purchase early last year has given us a Barossa Shiraz staple for over 12 months.

There is a bit left though we are fretting about where the next will come from. Recall we did not make this wine but were lucky to be around when it came up for sale.

Telegraph Road
South Australia
Classic Dry Red 2013

Creating good reds at a budget price is a specialty of ours. The first Telegraph Road was the 2008 vintage and this still drinks well as the composition of the Telegraph is all about what quality is it possible to achieve for a price.

This is a great bargain and is limited to one case per order.

South Australian All Red Selection Series No.3

I put together this mixed dozen to show that under $7 we have a range of hand made, individual reds which for many customers will be all they need. Wines come and go quickly at Glug as making huge amounts and smothering vintage differences is not our way.

The Big Red Mix No.18

This is our longest running mixed dozen because it is the most popular. It provides a balance between expensive varieties and our more general favourites plus provides a saving on buying the dozen bottles separately. A real Glug winner.
