Single Vineyard Blewitt Springs Area
Hope Farm Reserve 'Pitches' McLaren Vale Shiraz 2013
Region: McLaren Vale, SA
The Pitches is the premium offering from our Hope Farm range. The wine is made to last and is the best we can discover from each vintage which to-date has meant from single vineyards or several vineyards often located in the higher country along the northern rim of McLaren Vale. Indeed for 2012 we found, with the assistance of Nicholas Bourke, the right wine from a single vineyard off 35 year old vines in a small valley that protrudes north of McLaren Vale called Blewitt Springs.
It is, of course, named after George Pitches Manning who settled Hope Farm in 1850. From my readings I think while Manning was not the first to plant vines he was the best wine-maker and for decades had a higher reputation than neighbours, so I see him as the original founder of quality wine-making in McLaren Vale. His wines had a ready sale as they tasted better. This wine is very young and does require cellaring for a number of years for it to blossom.
