Complexity at the Right Price
P.B. Burgoyne Langhorne Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
Region: Langhorne Creek, SA
The district of Langhorne Creek has a frontage to Lake Alexandrina which sits behind the giant coastal dunes which separate it from the Southern Ocean.
I believe this is a favourable location for growing grapes as the inland heat is tempered by the cooling ocean and lake. Such a situation creates rich and complex flavours yet the grapes prices are far lower than those of McLaren Vale and the Barossa Valley meaning the final wines are cheaper.
As the Barossa and McLaren Vale prices drift up this locality is the safe haven for smart buyers. Just as the great Wolf Blass noted way back in the early 1970s when he taught how to see what had not been seen before.
The lesson is still being taught and until then wise drinkers can save and drink well.
