Old History Brought Alive
Stonevale Wines Red Barn Bin 606 Barossa Valley Winemakers Dry Red Blend 2012
Region: Barossa Valley
The last release of the Red Barn was in March, 2014 which was a Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2011; made from a trio of varieties which are of great interest to us.
They are what I term the heritage varieties and date back to the first plantings made in the 1840s though recall vineyards did not really expand to a significant size until the 1870s-1880s.
After 1960 new varieties were introduced into the Barossa Valley though only two Cabernet and Merlot have reached a significant acreage.
There are though another 20 varieties that can be offered and we are very keen on the Portuguese port varieties. This Bin 606 then experiments with many varieties though the base goes back to the heritage varieties.
