Shocking Opening Price on Ariadne Sauv Blanc

+ 8 Best Buys for Season 2017

It's Back Fresh and Fabulous and Two Day Special Becomes
Best Christmas purchase No. 7

Ariadne Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2017
It's back and on special and a great bargain at $99 and thus becomes the Best Xmas purchase No. 7. Continues the run of Sauvignon Blanc from the same vineyards are previous vintages with the only differences being due to the vintage. A great buy.

Two Day Price Smash

Ariadne Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2017

The 2017 is sourced from the same Adelaide Hills vineyards as previous vintages. The town of Woodside is centrally located in the Adelaide Hills at a height of about 370 metres. The grapes for the Ariadne are sourced from further west, well into the climb up the Basket Range, which is the hot place for aspiring young winemakers.

To make great Sauvignon Blanc you need a cool growing climate and for Australia this means a high elevation. This also means the variety will take on a slightly different expression to the popular New Zealand wines which are from cool climate latitudes but near sea level.

As the excitement of wine is about its variation I think you should be drinking a range of Sauvignon Blanc’s. You will be the judge but since we moved to this locality in the Adelaide Hills I now score the Ariadne up with the best Australians and the $10 plus New Zealand wines.

I am so confident with this statement that I give the Ariadne my 10/10 value for money sticker.

Follow the guide to the best buys for Christmas 2017, now at 8 and I'm hunting for more.

We now have 8 Best Christmas Purchase specials and I’m prowling for more. I know Benjamin and Greg have a couple of specials bottlings so I will see what I can grab.

You need a great white and the stand-out over the last five years has been the Ariadne Sauvignon Blanc from the Adelaide Hills. As I often do with new releases I give a quick opening special. An old retailing rule is to get the stock moving and into customers homes.
The all time best buy is though the Goat Square Shiraz and if we are silly enough to offer a FREE Ziegenmarkt just take the prize. A different style made in a different way is the P.B. Burgoyne Barossa Shiraz which becomes the Best Christmas purchase No.8.

Enough talk as let the wines do the speaking while I search for more gems.

FREE Ziegenmarkt with New Goat

Goat Square Barossa Valley Shiraz Special Offer
The Goat 2015 is a blinder and a long term keeper and to mark its return-the final bottling - you will receive a FREE bottle of the Goat Square Ziegenmarkt 2014 which sells for $16.99 packed with each case. This is the 8th vintage of the Goat and winemaker Parker and his assistant Greg have done a fabulous job. I see exceptional value at this price. It’s a Christmas special so for today there are no limits. Thanks.

8th Vintage Barossa Salt of the Earth

Goat Square Barossa Valley Shiraz 2015 (second and final bottling)

The Goat is one of our special wines. The Barossa Valley is a small, rare, unique piece of the earths crust and only from this spot do you get red wines which display such a powerful and unusual concentration of mid palate weight.

At times the fruit is so intense as to appear sweet a feature which can make wines which live for 50 years. The Goat Square wines come from a group of vineyards in the northern Barossa and any that look more interesting and intense than others are separated for the Goat.

The wine is named after Goat Square which is an historic location in the centre of Tanunda which in the 1840s to 1860s was a weekend market place, particularly for livestock.

This is the 8th vintage and the second and final bottling of about 150 cases. The winemaker is Benjamin Parker and we refer to Goat Square as the salt of the earth.

Christmas 2017 Mixed Red Dozen
Save $60.77 With Free Bonuses

I mixed up my first Xmas mix in November, 1977, to see how customers responded and sold a few boxes. Since then I have selected hundreds for everyday use. I have found you prefer a mix of reds and would rather select your own whites and roses so this Xmas 2017 the selection is a box of reds, being twelve wines I enjoy.

1. The Christmas 2017 mixed dozens of Big Reds contains one each of the following:

Langdorf Barossa Valley Shiraz 2015
P B Burgoyne McLaren Vale Cabernet Sauvignon 2014
Karrawirra Barossa Valley Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Cameron Country 'Red Post' Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 (Fifth bottling)
Restless Farm 'The Bunny' McLaren Vale Shiraz 2015
Light and Finniss Adelaidean SA Big Dry Red 2012
Langdorf Barossa Valley Grenache 2013
Bengalee Barossa Valley Shiraz Mataro 2014
Mount Eagle Eden Valley Shiraz 2013
Village Belle Barossa Valley Mourvedre 2014
P.B. Burgoyne Adelaide Hills Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon 2011
Donnybrook Clare Valley Shiraz 2012

2. Includes a FREE 13th bonus bottle of Grandma Raethel Barossa Valley Shiraz 2013 which we sell for $16.99.
3. Includes a FREE copy of Mike Langfords photographic book on Tasman Peninsula (70 pages) which we sell for $29.90. Langford is a multiple winner of the Australian Landscape Photographer of the Year and I was with him when he took the photos which is how I obtained the book remainders.

The mix is a compelling and add in the two FREE extras and you have a bargain.

Top Bargain for 2017
The Ultimate Collection of Left Overs or PPBs

Knowing what is in each bottle and thus the ‘value for money’ ratio I feel safe in saying this mixed box is the best bargain and also the best mix we have offered all year. Recall these are small quantities that remained from bottling our premium wines over 2016 and 2017. These wines or ‘left-over’ were simply too precious to blend away, and the tiny, nuisance amounts of others, were finally bottled over the last four weeks.

Each case contains three bottles of the following four wines:
PPB Premium Private Bin 87 Barossa Valley Carbonedro 2014/2016
PPB Premium Private Bin 88 Barossa Valley Shiraz 2015
PPB Premium Private Bin 84 Barossa Valley Shiraz Grenache 2015
PPB Premium Private Bin 61 Barossa Valley Shiraz 2015

Who would have thought that what did not sell in full case lots when combined in a mixed dozen, would rank as the most exciting offer all year, on this the 46th weekend. The winemaker tells me he has one tiny amount left to bottle and that is the job done. Many sensational wines have been cleared and are now in new homes and again I thank customers as it takes a special breed of customer to understand our odd ways. Alas only enough for one case per order.

Big Red Mix No.14
from South Australia

A few alterations to No 13 means a change to No 14 though the highlight is still the Village Belle Mourvedre though in second place comes the Hope Farm McLaren Vale Grenache. Honourable mentions go to the Trennert McLaren Vale Shiraz and the rather stout Ploughman. The joy of buying a mixed dozen is keeping up with what we do and concentrating on what is in each bottle plus the price is attractive.

Big Red Mix No. 14 from South Australia Mixed Dozen contains one bottle each of the following wines:
Oakley Adams Padthaway Shiraz 2014
Cameron County 'Red Post' Coonawarra Cabernet 2013
P. B. Burgoyne McLaren Vale Cabernet 2014
Princeland Watch Limestone Coast Cabernet Sauvignon 2013
Light & Finniss Adelaidean Bin 536 Dry Red 2012
PB Burgoyne Adelaide Hills Merlot Cabernet 2011
Trennert 'West Winds' McLaren Vale Cabernet 2014
Village Belle Barossa Valley Mouvedre 2014
Farmers & Growers 'Ploughman' South Australia Classic Dry Red 2013
