Oakley Adams
Coonawarra
Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Our revival of an old Melbourne wine merchant. Served the gentry from 1900 to around 1940.

Pleased we have a very special wine to offer our revival of the brand.

Recall merchant wines are not wines we make but discover.

P.B. Burgoyne
McLaren Vale
Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

This McLaren Vale was bottled in September 2018. Appropriately from McLaren Vale as the London based Peter Bond Burgoyne became an importer on McLaren Vale reds way back in the 1870s.

Glug revived the brand with a 2006 McLaren Vale Shiraz and I hope somewhere a customer still has a few bottles as I bet it is superb. Keen price for two days-limit one case per order.

P.B. Burgoyne
Langhorne Creek
Shiraz 2016

When Burgoyne was looking for wine in South Australia I doubt he made it to Langhorne Creek as until recently it was on no one’s radar.

Its been on mine for a few years and the strength of this Shiraz will reveal why it deserves your interest.

Our range of wine merchant brands continues a tradition that can be traced back to the old kingdoms of Mesopotamia.

Our range of wine merchant brands continues a tradition that can be traced back to the old kingdoms of Mesopotamia.

Following the merchant brands on Glug means you will buy well; these are Auld and Burton. Oakley Adams, P.B. Burgoyne and of course Glug. Here is the background.

For centuries and likely thousands of years a merchant acted as the intermediary between a producer of wine and the customer as they would select the wine and handle transport to the market. Perhaps a few hundred years ago they added another skill and became involved with blending wines to improve what was sold.

Recently I became aware of the wine list of The Australia Café circa 1922 and was thrilled to see the range on offer from P.B. Burgoyne and Oakley Adams.

Glug makes wine but also act as merchants and buys wine in barrel or bulk made by others. Benjamin and I developed the wine merchant labels to help distinguish these merchant wines from those we make like Goat Square and Karrawirra.
The first was the P.B. Burgoyne was a McLaren Vale Shiraz 2006 with dozens released since then and customer feed-back confirms buying a Burgoyne is money well spent.

The Burgoyne firm began back in 1871 and later purchased the Mount Ophir winery, Rutherglen in 1893 and it was in use until 1955.

Oakley Adams is a more recent addition though I revived the brand for a Sydney retailer in the mid 1990s. Alas we have no Auld and Burton wines for sale today though they will return. The best buy today is the Burgoyne McLaren Vale Cabernet.

30 Day Pricing Guarantee:
After buying wine it is most annoying to find it cheaper shortly afterwards. Currently Ben and I find selling on-line most turbulent.

To hold our ground I confess to moving prices around far more than usual. Please notify Nicole or Claire of any upsetting price moves and they will then issue a credit.

P.B. Burgoyne
Barossa Valley
Semillon 2016
As long as a wine is of high quality it should be on your radar to purchase.

The rush to exclusively drink whites from cool climates has gone to far as they seldom gain the flavour and complexity of this ‘new school’ Barossa Semillon. Ranks as an undiscovered bargain thus I recommend it highly.

Oakley Adams
Limestone Coast
Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

The Glug bargain of the moment. Full bodied, richly flavoured with lots happening on the palate. I rate and thus point score this Cabernet way above its agreeable price would suggest.

The best of the Limstone Coast and one reason is that once you leave Coonawarra and Padthaway and plant in a no-name area the land price tumbles and that means drinking bargains.

P. B. Burgoyne
Adelaide Hills
Chardonnay 2016

Unusually for us Benjamin has pulled this wine in a different direction by aging in oak which in this case has lengthened the palate. I see good buying at the January Sale price.

It's All Barossa Valley - 100% Guaranteed No.5

The Australian press, tourist agencies and P.R. companies all agree that the most popular wine region, the most recognised, is the Barossa Valley. The late, great Chef Joel Rubuchon was famous for his mashed potatoes which contained 25% butter. ‘No one who tasted his recipe, made with 25 per cent butter, could forget the experience’. This reads like a proxy for the Barossa Valley, not just a warm climate red but one exploding with 25% more flavour.
